CANADIAN TRAIL SHOES WITH DYNEEMA® — WHAT THEY ARE AND WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW THEM

NORDA: WHEN RUNNING SHOES ARE NO LONGER A COMPROMISE

Most running shoes solve the same problem in the same way: lightweight foam, synthetic upper, rubber sole. The differences between brands are real, but they operate within the same material framework. Norda started with a different question—what if trail shoes were made from materials previously reserved for mountaineering and military equipment?
The brand was founded in 2021 in Montreal by Nick and Villamina Martire—runners with experience in the outdoor industry—alongside Louis-Martin Tremblay and Gérard Clallo. Nick previously worked at Arc'teryx, which explains the approach to materials: precise, technical, and uncompromising. The inspiration came from Quebec—a region where the climate can swing from -35°C to +35°C in a single season, making equipment reliability non-negotiable. This environment brutally tests every design assumption.

DYNEEMA®—THE GAME-CHANGING MATERIAL

At the heart of every Norda shoe is an upper made from Dyneema® biomaterial—an UHMWPE (ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene) fiber that is 15 times stronger than steel at the same weight. This is the same material used in climbing ropes, bulletproof vests, and advanced marine equipment. It is appearing in running footwear for the first time thanks to Norda.
The practical consequences are concrete: the Dyneema® upper does not absorb water, does not stretch under stress, and retains its shape after thousands of kilometers of use. In traditional trail shoes, the upper is usually the first part to show signs of wear. In Norda, this problem virtually does not exist.
The sole comes from Vibram®—a Swiss manufacturer that has set standards in mountain and technical footwear for decades. The Megagrip formula provides traction on both wet rocks and dry sand. The 005 model uses the Megagrip Elite version—lighter and optimized for racing. The midsole foam is partly made from marine algae, which reduces the carbon footprint of production without compromising cushioning properties.

TECHNICAL SHOES THAT DON'T NEED A SPORTING CONTEXT

Norda quickly gained attention not only within the trail running community. Its minimalist design, clear point of view, and materials worth talking about quickly led the brand to be stocked in concept stores alongside Satisfy, ROA, and other brands with a technical-aesthetic DNA. Norda shoes are seen in urban contexts as often as on mountain trails—and in both cases, they look exactly where they belong.
In its first seasons, the brand grew by several hundred percent annually, without resorting to mass distribution. Collaborations with Ermenegildo Zegna Group and Satisfy confirmed its position in the premium segment—but without technical compromises.
